The Praxis II Pennsylvania Grades 4–8 Core Assessment (5152) is designed to assess whether entry-level middle school educators have acquired the necessary level of competency to teach English, mathematics, social studies and science. The computer delivered exam is comprised of 210 selected-response questions that are distributed into three different assessments and their underlying concepts:
The pedagogy test will determine whether you have the general pedagogical knowledge needed to enter into the profession as an educator to teach English, mathematics, social studies and science. You will have one hour and 10 minutes to respond to 70 selected-response questions that cover the following Content Categories:
- Adolescents as Learners
- Curriculum and Instruction
The English Language Arts and Social Studies test will determine whether you have
acquired the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to succeed in the role of an
entry-level middle school teacher to teach English and Social studies. You will be given one hour and 10 minutes to respond to 70 selected-response questions that test your knowledge of the following Content Categories and concepts:
- English Language Arts
- Social Studies
- United States History
- World History
- Government and Political Science
The Mathematics and Science test is designed to determine whether you have achieved the level of comprehension needed to succeed in the profession as an entry-level middle school teacher of mathematics and science. During the exam, you will be given one hour and 10 minutes to respond to 70 selected-response questions. On this assessment, you will be permitted to use a scientific or four-function calculator to help you respond to questions that will cover the following Content Categories that reflect the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Mathematics or Science and Technology and Engineering Education, the Pennsylvania Core Mathematics Standards and the Framework for Grades 4-8 Program Guidelines for Pennsylvania:
You will be given a total of three hours and 30 minutes to complete the examination. It is advised to leave no questions unanswered on the exam, as your score will be based only on the number of questions you answer correctly, with no penalties given for any incorrect responses. Use your time efficiently to respond to questions to the best of your ability. You will be able to skip questions and return to them at a later time throughout the exam as needed. Passing scores on this test are determined based on the requirements of the state. An unofficial score will display on-screen upon completion of the exam.
