The PRAXIS II English Language Literature and Composition Content and Analysis Exam (0044 and 5044) is taken by candidates interested in teaching secondary school English. The exam consists of two essay questions. Candidates have one hour to complete the exam.
Candidates will select a piece of literature and create an essay response to specific questions about the text. The exam covers identifying the central underlying theme; anticipating two possible obstructions students may encounter with comprehending or analyzing the text, and developing two teaching activities to support student understanding of the selected text. Candidates will reference the text in their response.
The second essay asks candidates to review a piece of student writing and discuss its strengths and weaknesses to include errors in punctuation, spelling, grammatical construction and vocabulary. Candidates will create instructional activities to remediate weaknesses in the student writing.
