The PRAXIS II Early Childhood Content Knowledge Exam (0022 and 5022) is taken by candidates interested in teaching young students. The exam is comprised of 120 multiple choice questions: 10 questions cover creative and performing arts, 10 questions cover health and physical education, 17 questions cover science, 30 questions cover mathematics, 17 questions cover social studies, and 36 questions cover language and literacy.
The Creative and Performing Arts section of the exam covers fundamentals of visual art, theatre, visual art, music and dance; musical pitch and beat as they pertain to young children; color, texture, and line; and young children’s creative development.
The Health and Physical Education section of the exam covers body awareness, how emotion affects physical activity, how social interaction affects physical activity, and young children’s movement and motor skills.
The Science section covers scientific inquiry in the physical, earth, space, and life sciences as it concerns young children.
The Mathematics covers numbers and operations; patterns; relationships, reasoning; the relationship of math to other areas; problem solving; geometry ; spatial skills; measurement; abstract mathematical skills in young children, and the gathering, analysis and organization of data.
The Social Studies section of the exam covers the effects of culture, family, environment, government, and the economy on early childhood development, self-awareness, and interpersonal relationships.
The Language and Literacy section covers the relationship between oral language and literacy development, reading across the curriculum, primary markers indicating speech and language delays, phonics, articulation, syntax and sentence structure development, learning to read, write and spell, and children’s literature.
