PRAXIS II Early Childhood Content Knowledge Exam (5022)

If you want to teach early childhood education, by passing the Praxis II Early Childhood Education Exam, you will be one step closer to being certified to teach in around 40 US states and territories. The Praxis II Early Childhood Education Exam, 5025, consists of 120 selected-response questions. The test is computer based, and all testers have two hours to complete the 120 questions. The use of a calculator is not permitted. The mathematics section has around 30 questions and makes up about 25 percent of the Praxis II Early Childhood Education Exam. Prospective teachers should be able to understand emergent mathematics skills, numbers and operations, fractions, algebraic thinking, and geometry. Examinees should demonstrate understanding of central math concepts and skills.

The sections covering social studies and science each have around 17 questions and each are approximately 14 percent of the Praxis II Early Childhood Education Exam. The social studies section focuses on identity, social and emotional development, culture, people, places, environments, civics, and government. The science section will test foundational concepts and processes of scientific inquiry, physical science, earth and space science, life science, engineering, technology, and applications of science.

The section that includes health and physical education as well as creative and performing arts is around 20 questions or 17 percent of the Praxis II Early Childhood Education Exam. For the health and physical education part, examinees should know fundamental health concepts and skills such as the basic structure of the human body systems and the importance of maintaining a healthy and nutritious diet. For the creative and performing arts section, testers should be prepared to answer questions on the purposes and functions of the arts and the structure and processes within the arts.
